23skidoo 4 hours ago		CD Album Bill Haley And His Comets - The Hit Singles Collection (1985)	Appears to be the European version of the US release "From the Original Master Tapes" with some track differences, most notably the inclusion of the posthumously release Haley's Golden Medley, which made the charts in the UK has never been released in North America. Does anyone know if this used the same master tapes source as the MCA USA album? Easy way to tell is "Rock Around the Clock" in the "master tapes" version is preceded by a man's voice (not Haley) counting in "One...two..." before Haley starts. Rudy's Rock is also missing a handclap overdub midway through the song on "Master Tapes" versions.

George - International Discography Of The New Wave Volume ll 1982 / 83 (1982)	When this book came out it took me a while to commit to buying it, as it cost the equivalent of 3 or 4 LPs, but after constantly returning to the bookshop to browse I realised that I just had to buy it. At home I proceeded to read it cover to cover and soak up all the info within, wildly imagining how wonderful a record by say Beatles Costello would sound, and equally disappointed at the realisation that such wonders were unlikely to ever come my way. (little did I know what the future would bring). Because early punk/new wave was becoming unfashionable at the time of the book's release, I was able to pick up a lot of obscure 7"s secondhand for pennies and I always had the book handy to check what I was buying. Unfortunately in my reckless youth I also discarded or sold on many records that I felt didn't come up to scratch, aIso adding my own briefly disparaging notes below the artist's book entry - many of which I simply cannot comprehend these days (though it does give me a laugh at how unforgiving I was). In the 2000s I came across a mint copy of the book at a record fair for something like £5, regrettably I did not purchase it, my own copy is rather dog-eared and the spine is worn. These days I believe the book sells for a lot more, that is if you can actually find a copy.

Gill Sans SUBS 10 hours ago		Classical Item York Minster Choir - Choral Music From York Minster (2007)	A fine recording by the all-male choir, who are shown to their best on the three unaccompanied pieces, the Byrd, the Vaughan Williams, and the Tallis with its fine example of the English Cadence. The Walker organ sounds in places, very familiar, there being other Walker instruments in my district. This is currently the latest Priory release, and the only one bearing the PRAB catalogue number, which may link with the Alpha Collection. Incidentally, it was shrink-wrapped in polythene rather than the usual crisp film with draw-tape. [YouTube Video]

The Saskatchewan Archival Information Network says 1978. It actually says Feb. 14, 1978 but I'm not sure if that's the date of recording or release so I just corrected to 1978.

I don't think that the gentleman went to the company and spent all of the time and trouble to compile this data to have his work referred to as a "secondary source". But if your release date makes you happy, then I'm happy right along with you.
xiphophilos 13 hours ago		78 RPM Jan Kubelik - Pierrot's Serenade (1911)	With all due respect, Bolig's book may be your personal "primary source," i.e., reference work, but it can never be a primary source, as least not in the way professional researchers would define a primary source as opposed to a secondary source. Primary sources are original documents, like Victor's blue history cards or contemporary newspaper articles (e.g., in a trade magazine like The Talking Machine World). Secondary sources are works that compile, analyze, and interpret the information found in primary sources. That's exactly what John Bolig's discographies are. Yes, they are excellent, and he has won much-deserved awards for them, but they are not necessarily the last word on everything. As a professional researcher, Bolig himself would be the first to concede that a primary source offering new information deserves preference and can be used to correct the info he presents in his book. For this record DAHR (another secondary source) used John Bolig's files, Alan Kelly's files, and the Rigler-Deutsch Index; the last two don't contain release dates, and Bolig's original files don't seem to have contained such a date either. His published discography does, but DAHR doesn't seem to have worked in that information yet.
